A two-track replacement bridge – Portal North – now replaces the outdated relic with a modern, high-level fixed span that does not open or close, eliminating the movable components and risk of malfunction. The new bridge rises 50-feet over the river and, including the approaches, span nearly 2.5 miles of the Northeast Corridor. Portal North Bridge is an important element of the broader Gateway Program that will eventually double rail capacity between Newark and New York.

Services Provided:

Install (17) 4" GRC conduits beneath each section of bridge. Install interior lighting and convenience power throughout all (6) arches. Prefab of conduit hangers and box supports.

Martin Electric’s value add started with our prefabrication capabilities, prefabricating the conduit hangers and box supports in our 20 SQFT warehouse space. This prefabrication allows for a controlled environment for fabrication and time saved due to readily available resources on-site. The 3 - 400 ft bridge sections that Martin Electric was responsible for were built in the Port of Coeymans with trade partners Daidone, Skanska, and D.A. Collins then floated down the Hudson River to their final destination in New Jersey.
